FAQ

What types of trees does Bell Timber Inc. purchase?

Bell Timber Inc. primarily purchases softwoods species from the Pacific Northwest, Lake States Region and the Southeast Region of the United States.

We produce our products from Doug Fir, Western Red Cedar, Red Pine, and Southern Yellow Pine. In addition, we are set up to manage and market all species that grow within these regions.

Is there a fee for forest assessment?

No. The professional forestry staff at Bell Timber Inc. will be happy to provide a free initial assessment on your land following a phone interview.

Do I need to hire a logging company or will Bell Timber Inc. handle that for me?

Bell Timber Inc. works with a wide array of certified logging contractors within all of the areas we serve.

How do I know when my trees are ready for a harvest?

The type, age and the density of the trees in your forest are some of the factors a Bell forester will use to determine if your trees are ready for a thinning or a complete harvest. Some trees can be selectively thinned when they are the right age to allow the remaining trees more room to continue to grow and develop. Some trees can only be completely harvested (sometimes called a clear-cut). Trees that are mature must be harvested so a new forest can start to grow for you. Your Bell forester will be able to give you an assessment of your forest needs to meet your ownership objectives.

What do I have to do when a stand of timber is ready for a harvest?

The Bell Timber forester will review with you what needs to be done, and will complete all of the required field work.  A timber sale contract will be prepared with a map for your review that lists what you will be paid and how much income you can expect to receive from the timber sale.  All of the required government documents will be prepared for your review and signature.  Your harvested timber will be marketed to the best markets and we will negotiate with a certified logger and a trucker to have your wood products delivered to designated markets.  Bell Timber will pay you for the harvested wood and will also pay the logger and trucker for their work.  The Bell forester will ensure that all of your payments have been received and you will be provided a summary letter.
